When is your next oil change due?
Check the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual and the mileage or date of your last oil change. Your vehicle and driving conditions determine the interval. The oil specification matters too: the correct choice depends on the engine, so have your vehicle details ready when discussing service.
Bring your maintenance history together
A recent service invoice helps you see which maintenance has already been completed and what may be due next. If the records are incomplete, share what you know. When asking for an oil-change quote, confirm the oil, filter, quantity and any additional checks included for your vehicle.
- Current mileage and the date of the last oil change, if known.
- The oil or service details shown on your latest invoice.
- Other maintenance listed as due in your vehicle’s schedule.
For other scheduled engine maintenance, see tune-ups.
A reminder light or a new engine problem?
A scheduled service reminder and a new running problem need different attention. Tell us whether you are booking routine upkeep or have also noticed a leak, noise, warning light or change in how the engine runs. Discuss those concerns when arranging your oil change so they can be considered separately.
If a check-engine light or new running issue is the main concern, start with check-engine diagnostics.
Service questions
Your questions, answered.
How often does my car need an oil change?
Use the manufacturer’s schedule for your vehicle and driving conditions. Your owner’s manual, current mileage and last service record are useful starting points; the same interval will not suit every car.
What if I do not know when the oil was last changed?
Tell us that the service history is incomplete and share any records you do have. You can still ask about maintenance and discuss a suitable next step for your vehicle.
What should I ask when getting an oil-change quote?
Ask which oil specification and filter the quote covers, how much oil your engine needs, and whether any other checks or work are included. Confirm the total for your vehicle before agreeing to service.
